"Beaver", as he is affectionately known, is slated to be our Foundation stallion for our budding Rocky Mountain/Kentucky
Mountain Saddle Horse breeding program. At this time we seem to be the first breeders in New York State of this rare heritage
American Gaited Horse. Developed in the mountains of Kentucky (see more information on the breed on
Our Gaited Horses page) they are still quite rare in the North East but over the last few years have been steadily gaining in popularity. One of
the reasons I like this particular gaited breed is because every breeding animal must be certified by the age of three years
old in order to be used as a breeding animal ensuring that gait, conformation and disposition (yes, they are evaluated for
disposition!) are of the utmost quality. Beaver has spent the last two years growing like an explosive weed- he is going to
be a BIG boy- and learning everything we can teach him on the ground so that he is fully prepared to take his certification
test. He gaits consistently in the field, has nice conformation for his age and growth and a very willing and kind disposition
so we are hopeful that he will pass and begin a new breeding venture for us here at Foxwillow. He has a great pedigree and
may be homozygous for the silver dapple and black color genes, which means that he will only be able to produce
chocolates and red chocolates no matter what color mare he is bred too. If he passes his certification we will be testing
him for both. Keep watching here as we will be updating his progress frequently as he matures into the "next best thing" here
at Foxwillow! Exciting times are ahead!
